I am.

I’ve moved with the Shakers,
Danced with the Quakers,
Laughed at the Fakers
And never left a footprint behind.

I’ve chased children through the forest,
Eating all their breadcrumbs,
Watched them lose their way,
And set them right again.

I am the sun and the air,
Or the son and the heir.
Maybe both.
I am nothing in particular.

I saw a man on a mountain,
I watched him crack stone,
I told him not to kill.
He didn’t understand.

I helped Man push his rock up his hill,
I helped Woman launch a thousand ships.
I was with her when she called for strength on the battlements,
Blood on her unsexed hands.

Everybody fights me,
Everybody for me,
Everybody over me
And everybody dies.
I wandered through their love for me.

I’ve walked through your dreams,
I’ve freed you from your nightmares,
I gave you imagination,
I feared your use of it.

I am what you say I am,
I am what you say I’m not.

I am indefinable.

I am unimportant in the grand scheme.
But I am still in it.

Author's Comments

This is very different to the majority of my poetry.

Sorry Jo, this isn't the infamous semi-epic. I lost the scrap of paper holding the three inspirational verses, and until I find them, it's on hold.

For now, have this.

This is a very odd fragmented little thing that was written out of order with as many references as I could think of.

For those who can figure out any/all the references, leave a comment and if you can figure them all out (daniel... as I think I told you them all, you're not allowed) then you get a cookie. It may be a little old, though.

Thanks to SirCellophane for help with the editing and ordering of verses.

This comment started in my mind saying 'epic epic epic' and then it just came back to a voice of Bernard yelling 'FLAKE FLAKE FLAKE!' ... I think I have absorbed far too much of Black Books.

If you say you're right, then you must be right. But I still refuse to believe in you.

What's that you say? You know my faults? You have the cure?

(You are the poison)

Depends on the situation. Mindful it is the wrong situation I just blame Mart. :P
